Firearms Training

Firearms certification and competency is increasingly important in the certification and deployment of security protection operatives in all specialities and tasks. Firearms training is available to take a candidate without prior experience or exposure to firearms in stages towards competency and expertise in marksmanship, as well as to extend and develop the skills of those with previous expertise and familiarity to adapt their skills to a security protection environment.

Handgun 101

Requirements

  • Responsible firearms ownership and applications of the handgun
  • Firearms safety training for the home, workplace, and vehicle
  • Safety concerns and practices while training and while carrying a firearm
  • Safe use and handling of firearms
  • Locking devices and techniques for firearms to prevent unauthorized gun access
  • Potential dangers (penetration, ricochet, misidentification, accidental discharges, etc.)
  • Ready positions
  • Components and operation of modern pistols
  • Types, components, and purposes of modern ammunition
  • Applicable laws relating to the possession, transportation, and storage of firearms
  • General guidelines on interstate travel with firearms
  • Administrative loading and unloading of pistols
  • Fundamentals of basic shooting techniques
  • Preventative maintenance (cleaning, maintenance, inspection, and safe storage)

Course Timing

Classes starting at 8:30am will run until 5:00pm.

Classes starting at 1:00pm will run until 9:30pm.

Classes starting at 6:00pm will run two consecutive nights until 10:00pm each night.

Equipment List

  • Do not bring any firearms or ammunition to this course
  • Please wear long pants with pockets, closed toe shoes (no flip flops or sandals), and a crew neck (T-shirt) or button-up shirt (no low-cut neck lines)

Costs

Tuition includes free loan of firearms, holsters, safety glasses and hearing protection.

Ammo – Ammunition is included in the cost of this course.

Handgun 102

Prerequisite

This course is Step 2 of 3 in our foundation handgun training series. We strongly recommend  Handgun 101 or equivalent before you attend Handgun 102. The student MUST know and be able to demonstrate how to safely load, fire, and unload a handgun.

Students failing to meet and maintain our safety requirements and/or who cannot meet and immediately demonstrate the minimum skills required for the specific class may be removed from training. Please ensure you have read through the class description and fully understand our prerequisites before registering.

 

Course Outline

    • Handgun selection considerations
    • Support equipment
    • Shooting basics – the importance of proper grip, sight alignment, sight picture, stance, trigger control, and follow-through
    • Presentation of the handgun from the holster to the target and safe recovery back to the holster
    • Administrative and in-service loading and unloading techniques
    • Static shooting positions
    • Cleaning and maintenance

Course Timing

Classes starting at 8:30am will run until 5:00pm.

Classes starting at 1:00pm will run until 9:30pm.

Classes starting at 6:00pm will run two consecutive nights until 10:00pm each night.

Equipment List

  • Quality functional semi-automatic pistol – Full size and compact pistols only.
    • No micro pistols or pocket pistols to include: P238, P938, P365, M&P Shield, Glock 43, etc.
  • 3 magazines
  • Magazine pouch
  • Dominant side, hip-mounted holster or dominant side, belt-mounted holster
  • Please wear long pants with pockets and belt loops, a sturdy 1.5″ belt, closed toe shoes (no flip flops or sandals), and a crew neck (T-shirt) or button-up shirt (no low-cut neckline)
  • Optional, loading devices

Costs

Handgun 103

Prerequisite

This course is Step 3 of 3 in our foundation handgun series. We strongly recommend  Handgun 102 or equivalent before you attend Handgun 103. The student MUST know and be able to demonstrate how to safely load, fire, and unload a handgun as well as have demonstrated competence in working from a holster and performing reloads.

Students failing to meet and maintain our safety requirements and/or who cannot meet and immediately demonstrate the minimum skills required for the specific class may be removed from training. Please ensure you have read through the class description and fully understand our prerequisites before registering.

 

Course Outline

    • Review and reinforcement of SIG Principles
    • Presentations and recovery from the holster
    • Sight picture and its relationship to size and distance
    • Trigger control
    • Shot delivery
    • Refining shooting fundamentals
    • Reloading techniques
    • Malfunction clearance procedures
    • Single hand techniques
    • Moving then shooting
    • Target to target transition drills

Classes starting at 6:00pm will run two consecutive nights until 10:00pm each night.

  • Quality functional semi-automatic pistol – Full size and compact pistols only.
    • No micro pistols or pocket pistols to include: P238, P938, P365, M&P Shield, Glock 43, etc.
  • 3 magazines minimum
  • Optional, loading devices
  • Dominant side, hip-mounted holster or dominant side, belt-mounted holster
  • Magazine pouch(es)
  • Sturdy belt at least 1.5″ wide
  • Footwear suitable for rapid movement and turning
  • Clothing suitable for training in any weather, pants must have belt loops
  • Wraparound eyewear, polycarbonate lenses or non-shattering prescription glasses
  • Earmuffs and earplugs

Tuition includes free loan of firearms, holsters, safety glasses and hearing protection.

Ammo

  • Estimated round count: 350 rounds pistol
  • For some courses, non-toxic, non-jacketed FRANGIBLE ammunition may be required
  • Lead core ammunition to be used on steel only
  • No green/brown tip, armor piercing, or surrogate rounds to be used on steel at any time
  • Ammunition is available for purchase from the training facility only

Handgun 104

Prerequisite

This is an intermediate level class. The student needs to know and be able to demonstrate safe gun handling, weapon system familiarity, foundational marksmanship skills, and working from a holster.

We strongly recommend the completion of Handgun 103 or its equivalent prior to registering for this course.

Students failing to meet and maintain our safety requirements and/or who cannot meet and immediately demonstrate the minimum skills required for the specific class may be removed from training. Please ensure you have read through the class description and fully understand our prerequisites before registering.

 

Course Outline

    • Responsible firearms ownership and defensive applications of the pistol
    • Firearms safety that works – in the home, workplace, vehicle, in training, and in carry
    • Selection of a defensive pistol and accessories
    • Selection of defensive and training ammunition
    • Understanding what constitutes a deadly threat
    • Review of tactical communication, searching and scanning, and threat identification
    • Dealing with multiple threats
    • Turning and shooting
    • Shooting while moving
    • Non-standard shooting positions
    • Utilisation of cover and concealment
    • Single Hand Only shooting and manipulations
    • Intro to Shooting in low-light conditions
    • Tourniquet overview and application
    • Decision making scenarios with UTMs

  • Handheld  flashlight (Streamlight, Surefire, etc.)
  • Sturdy belt at least 1.5″ wide
  • Footwear suitable for rapid movement and turning
  • Clothing suitable for training in any weather, pants must have belt loops
  • Wraparound eyewear, polycarbonate lenses or non-shattering prescription glasses
  • Earmuffs and earplugs
